Graceland
Inn is the picture of turn-of-the-20th-century elegance and the Elkins
Purple Majesties couldn't have dreamed of a more relaxing -- and
regal -- atmosphere in which to begin its fun and exciting adventure. Poised on the hillside of the campus of
Davis & Elkins
College, Graceland Inn, and its restaurant The Mingo Room, commands a twenty-mile view of
the scenic West Virginia mountains.
This
beautifully restored Victorian mansion served as
the summer home to U.S. Senator and Vice Presidential candidate Henry
Gassaway Davis. In the summer months guests of The Mingo Room can dine on
the veranda that overlooks the town of Elkins below. The original red oak
dining room and its adjacent glass conservatory, along with the cherry library
and birds eye maple sunroom, also provide guests with more intimate dining
experiences.
Halliehurst Hall, located next door -- summer home to Stephen B. Elkins, U.S. Senator, Secretary of War, and Davis' son-in-law -- is the perfect companion to Graceland Inn. Both homes display exquisite woodwork and are a true treat to visit. Whether you want to step back in history or take advantage of some of some of the best outdoor activities in the east, this area of West Virginia is perfect anytime!
