View From AfarSitting on several hundred acres, Mountain Quest Inn is nestled in the quiet mountains of Pocahontas County near Frost WV. Innkeepers Alexandra and David Bennet have done a remarkable job transforming the 1905 house and farm into a fabulous and unique retreat.

A two story wing off the original house features 12 guest rooms, each decorated in a different theme and furnished by a lifetime of antiques and treasures collected by the Bennets. In the Safari Hut you can sleep beneath mosquito nets and a mural of the African Mara. The Playhouse features an exquisite 3-story antique rosewood dollhouse. Other rooms showcase the solar system, science objects, airplanes, and a tranquil garden. Your biggest dilemma would be deciding in which room to stay!

Lower LibraryThe inn features a front room suitable for large gatherings or parties. Andrew, Alex's son, is your chef. He serves hearty country breakfasts in the parlor of the original 1905 farmhouse and succulent, mouth watering dinners. The menu is always sure to surprise and delight your palette.

A two-story library anchors the center, complete with piano, marionette display, spiral staircase, thousands of volumes to read, and comfortable couches and chairs. Beautiful antique kaleidoscopes adorn some of the bookcases on the upper level. One could easily spend the day marveling at their intricate display of color and light.

A community fun room completes the upper level and features a large screen TV and over 3,000 DVDs to choose from. If you get thirsty, simply step behind the bar and make yourself a cocktail. Turn on the retro-style jukebox and rack up a game of pool with your friends or play pinball or vintage Pac-Woman. There is a popcorn machine, antique gas pump, and more for your enjoyment as well.

The rear on the inn features an exercise room, sauna, and hot tub. Joining this center section of the inn to the guest rooms is a 4-story, glass domed tower, each floor highlighting a different level of the earth's strata. Spectacular views await the further you climb and at the top you can gaze at the night stars through a telescope. A winding labyrinth in the field out back also awaits your curiosity.

Upper LibraryFor your adventurous side, miles of trails await your exploration. In the summer you can go fly-fishing in nearby streams or take a long nature walk. In the winter there is nearby skiing at Snowshoe Mountain Resort. Other nearby attractions include the National Radio Astronomy Observatory at Green Bank and Cass Scenic Railroad. If the options are too much to decide you can simply relax in one of the rockers on the front porch and think about it for a while. Across the way the horses, llamas, and goats at the barn might jump in with their occasional opinion.

Whatever you decide to do -- or not do -- the Inn at Mountain Quest is definitely an experience not to be missed.
