The holiday spirit was in abundance during the Christmas dinner at Graceland Monday night. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal and got to open at least one present early during the small gift exchange. Mrs. Claus greeted hatters as they arrived and both she and Santa made sure everyone was still on the Nice List. For more details see the link for the pictures and write-up below.
The recipe for Sugar Cookies, as included in the cookie cutter favor Monday night, is also below.

Please keep QM Susie Ware in your thoughts as she was hospitalized Monday afternoon and was unable to attend the Christmas dinner. We are thinking of you Susie and wish you a speedy recovery!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN HATTERS!!!

  October 2, 2007

Hi Hatters. I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of the Forest Festival. Remember - our chapter will be in the Grand Feature Parade on Saturday! Please call Norma Fitzwater or Evelyn Warner if you would like to participate. It really is a lot of fun and I encourage anyone who hasn't made an afternoon of it to do so.  Our chapter will also be going to the WV Symphony on Sunday and then Monday is our regular luncheon. WHEW! What a whirl weekend we are having!!

I will upload pictures from the September luncheon as soon as I get some. I am also finalizing the entries for the new address book. Hopefully everyone can proof their information at the October lunch as I believe the new book will be printed soon.

That's it for this one-handed typist at the moment. (I had hand surgery last Friday so things are a little slow -- especially since the carpel tunnel in my "good" hand is acting up, basically leaving me handless!!)

  September 20, 2007

Happy Birthday to Dowager Queen Judy!! Lunch schedule and other events have been updated in the left column. Please note the reservation due dates for the Forest Festival Symphony and the American Mountain Theatre. Norma and Evelyn are planning our float for this year's Forest Festival parage. Come on out and join the fun!! We had a ball last year and the crowd seemed to love us. Contact Norma or Evelyn for more info.

  September 15, 2007

Good news hatters!  Giorgina from "Gifts-R-4-U" in Myrtle Beach will be in Elkins once again this Friday, September 21, from 10:30 am - 3 pm in the Conference Room at Sunken Garden. (Lower level, Days Inn). Hurry on out and get in some late summer shopping!!

Giorgina has been here several times before and I'm sure any gal who has shopped her store knows that there is a little bit of everything to choose from. She has tons of red hat merchandise! Clothes, jewelry, purses, scarves, notebooks, throws, knick knacks. You name it - she probably has it!! For more info you can contact Gifts-R-4-U directly at this email address: GiftsR4U@sccoast.net

  September 2007

Final payment for everyone's $5.00 yearly dues is the September luncheon.
Mountain Quest tour pictures are here.

I hope everyone enjoyed Labor Day. Now it's time to get ready for Forest Festival! Don't know if there are plans for another float this year or not. I will let everyone know as soon as I know.

  August 13, 2007

A warm welcome to our new members who joined in July. We just keep growing and growing. Congratulations to the new queens who also started their reign. You will do a great job. I hope everyone also had the opportunity to buy a bunch of goodies at the red hat shop last month. There sure was a lot to choose from!

Pictures have been added for:

Thanks to Roberta and JoAnn for taking them! I will update the lunch schedule at right as soon as I have information. If you have any pictures from summer vacations or other exciting events that you would like to share, please email the REDMASTER. That's it for now.

  July 17, 2007

$5.00 YEARLY DUES ARE PAST DUE
Contact the QMs to pay. This money goes towards renewing our charter with the official Red Hat Society and other miscellaneous expenses.

I have added all of the birthdays and anniversaries that I know of to the group calendar. I have also set up email reminders so we can share your special day with you. Please take a moment to follow the group calendar link above and see if your information is listed. If it is NOT LISTED then I do not know about your special day, but you can email me and let me know.

Information for POKENO THURSDAYS has been added to the events list at right. Another group also meets and contact info for that group has been listed as well.

It came to my realization that I did not have the WARNING poem by Jenny Joseph posted on the chapter website!! The only reference I had was a snippet of text crawl that appears at the bottom of each page. Hard to believe I missed such an obvious thing when it comes to Red Hatting. I've now remedied the situation so you can read the poem online anytime. It's in the Purple Puzzles section with the other fun and games.

Info. and directions for the August meeting have been updated at right. If you have never been to Mountain Quest Inn, you are in for a real treat! The place is beautiful and we had a ball when we last visited 2 years ago. If you want to see what we're in for, or if you just want to reminisce, I've re-uploaded the write-up and pictures from the tour they gave us last time. You can take a walk down memory lane here.

Everyone had fun at the July meeting at Sunken Garden and we REALLY enjoyed shopping for red hat merchandise in the GiftsR-4-U store! Thanks to the owners for coming in from Myrtle Beach to satisfy our shopping cravings! The big news is that two new queen mothers were installed - Susie Ware and Debbie Pernia. Here's wishing them lots of luck, although I'm sure they won't need it as they will do a fabulous job during their reign. July was also our 4 year anniversary! Hard to believe all our hatting started that long ago.

I will get new photos from the last 2 luncheons uploaded as soon as I receive them all. That's it for now.

  June 12, 2007

I am happy to announce that our NEW QUEENS ARE SUSIE WARE AND DEBBIE PERNIA!! Susie will be handling reservations each month and Debbie will be giving the royal speech at meetings. Welcome to the throne ladies! You will do a wonderful job and have a lot of fun :-)

That said, please remember to now
call Susie at 636-4093 to make or cancel reservations . The queen contact information has been updated here on the chapter website.

IN OTHER NEWS ...

The Coalton Days Parade will be held this Saturday, June 16th in Coalton. Margaret Skidmore is spearheading getting us a truck to ride in, however,
WE STILL NEED HATTERS TO RIDE ON THE TRUCK Please contact Margaret at 636-2621 for more information. We had a lot of fun the other times we rode in this parade. Come out for the day and enjoy!!

The July meeting will be the THIRD MONDAY of the month (JULY 16TH) at Sunken Garden in Elkins instead of the usual second Monday. Reservations are due by 12 NOON MONDAY JULY 9TH instead of the normal Thursday prior to the meeting. These changes are because RED HAT MERCHANDISE will be available for purchase. So bring your checkbooks, cash or credit cards! The new queens will also be crowned at this meeting so it is sure to be an even extra special day!

August duchesses have been announced. The YaYas: Charlotte, Sharon, Judy, Gerri and JoAnn are hosting. Place is to be announced. Other duchesses are needed for September on so please contact Susie if you and a friend would like to host one of the luncheons --OR-- plan some other event. Perhaps you would like to plan a summer picnic for the group, go on a shopping spree to an outlet mall, go to a play, or take us to someplace we haven't yet been. The ideas are endless - put on your thinking caps and dream big!!

That's about it for now, please read the reminder notice below. New pictures will be uploaded once I receive some. HAPPY HATTING!

  May 24, 2007

Information for the June meeting has been updated in the menu at right. Please keep Dowager Queens JoAnn, Sharon and Judy in your thoughts and prayers. JoAnn's sister and husband have both been ill. Sharon and Judy's uncle, Vernon Robinson, passed away last weekend.

As far as I know, we still NEED A NEW QUEEN!!! as Wanda's last tour of duty will be the June meeting. Please get a couple of girlfriends together and consider wearing the crown as co-royalty. Being Queen really is a lot of fun and not very hard.

The queen is responsible for taking reservations and keeping the list of meeting dates. The monthly duchesses (NOT the queen!) are responsible for deciding where to hold meetings, what the menu is, and setting the price. With a different duchess taking care of this each month the Queen's work is more than 50% done! Plus, there are a few people already who like to take pictures so that off your list. I do the website and newsletter so that off as well. See there -- the queen can practically sit back and relax. You have plenty of time to rest on your laurels and polish your crown :-)

Please know that the royal robe will never be too heavy because all the past queens are always willing to help you out as well! And never be afraid to delegate - delegate - delegate. Use your charms, wave the magic scepter and watch as everyone scurries to make your wish their command. So again, please get a couple of girlfriends together and consider wearing the crown as co-royalty. Call Wanda at 636-6829 to accept today!

  May 18, 2007

The picture at left is from the Christmas party last year. Maybe thinking of it will cool you off if the weather gets too hot! New updates for the website are noted at the end.

I hope everyone is enjoying spring. We see bright red cardinals, bright blue bluejays, and our resident downy woodpecker almost every day at the bird feeder. I have been busy weeding and getting ready to plant new trees, bulbs, bushes, and other things. We are also working on getting out a few things for a summer garden -- tomatoes, onions, lettuce and beans at least. Always so much to do and not nearly enough time! Guess if I keep at it it will all work out eventually.

Just heard today that the film I recently worked on will be having its premiere Friday, May 25th at 7pm over at Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. Not sure if this is a private screening or open to the public. I will keep you posted.

The film is called "B.A.S.I.C. Decisions" and was filmed for the Buckhannon Police Dept. The BPD developed the B.A.S.I.C. program to educate underage drinkers and offer community service to first time offenders. I worked on the crew of the film and we shot over the course of a week in April. The film follows one young man and his friends and shows the drastic potential consequences of what drinking, and poor judgment, can do anyone's life. The film should be available on DVD soon and the BPD has plans to show it at a variety of conferences and seminars. If anyone is interested in getting a copy for their church, library, or school just email REDMASTER Barbara and I will provide details.

PICTURES ONLINE FOR:

I do not have info for the June meeting yet. I will let everyone know as soon as I do.  NOTE NEW DATE of July 16th for that month's meeting. This is the third Monday instead of the usual second Monday. Change is due to Red Hat merchandise being available and when vendor could make it to Elkins. HAPPY HATTING!

  May 12, 2007

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Pictures have been uploaded for the 04-28-07 Tea Party at Unexpected Treasures. I still need pics for the April lunch at the Motor Lodge. If anyone has pictures please let REDMASTER Barbara know -- likewise missing pics from 2006, which are noted in the gallery.

Dowager Queen Sharon was released from the hospital on Monday after the tea that she missed. Sharon got a great kick out of the hatters who  visited her while she was laid up. All tests were fine but we still don't know what the problem was/is. The doc is doing some follow-up work so we will keep everyone posted. Until then, Sharon keeps plugging along and babysitting granddaughter Emma.

Dee Clark is back at the Elkins Regional Convalescent home. I'm sure she would love it if some Red Hatters visited her. Please keep Dowager Queen JoAnn and her family in yours prayers also. JoAnn's sister recently received some bad health news. Dee & JoAnn - we are all thinking of you!

Congratulations to red hatter Barbara Teague and her dog Nicki and pink hatter Barbara and her dog Wizzer on graduating from Dog Obedience School on May 9. The 4 completed 10 weeks of training sponsored by the Randolph County 4-H Extension Office. The dogs learned to heel, sit, stay, lay down, come, and stand for examination. I think the 2 ladies were more nervous than the dogs on graduation night but everything turned out great!

If you have hatter news to share please email REDMASTER Barbara.

  April 17, 2007

I have fixed some minor broken links that occurred during the last big update. Things should be working well now. The Weston Red Hat chapter is having an all day event this Saturday. For more info. contact Queen Wanda at 636-6829. Please visit the Passion Pit and send me your comments about this site.

Prayers go out to students, faculty, and families in the Virginia Tech community.

  April 9, 2007 - HUGE UPDATE!!

Condolences to Queen Wanda and family upon the sudden death of her son-in-law. Get well wishes go out to Dee Clark, Texie Mallow, and Sherri White as well. Please keep all of these members in your thoughts and prayers.

All of the pictures I have for the latest EPM red hat luncheons and other events are now uploaded and viewable. (BIG CHEER!) This includes everything I have or was given for 2006 and 2007. The only exception is "WE ARE MARSHALL" pictures which, due to volume, are taking me longer but should be done soon. Please note that I am still missing pictures for some months in 2006. (See updated list and submission details below.)

Any pictures or event write-ups 2005 and prior are offline and NOT viewable. These events are still listed in the picture gallery for reference, however. Sometimes it is nice to just look back and see where all we've been! If anyone wishes to see pictures from these events please know that I keep a backup of all write-ups and pictures that were previously posted on our chapter website.
