AREA ATTRACTIONS include friendly folks, skiing, hiking, train rides, Civil War sites, plus craft and antique shops. Mountain streams and lakes offer fishing or you can go whitewater rafting down one of our many rivers. State parks are always nearby and peaks and valleys offer great biking and caving opportunities. Elkins is the headquarters of the Monongahela National Forest and there are many local points of interest, such as Graceland and Halliehurst mansions, on the National Register of Historic Places. A few miles outside of Elkins is Bickel's Knob. This mountain top is the second highest point in the state and its fire observation tower has a great view of the surrounding mountains on a clear day.

AUTUMN SPLENDOR GALORE! The fall season brings a full range of natures colors to the trees and mountains of West Virginia. It also brings a season of many fairs and festivals, including the Mountain State Forest Festival, West Virginia's largest festival held each fall in Elkins. Autumn usually brings a flurry of auction activity as well as everyone tries to take advantage of the last warm days before the winter snow. Onsite auctions have long been a tradition here and visitors to the area are always welcome. Don't forget to visit the many antique shops as well!
